Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell will join the Nashville State community to celebrate the college’s graduates during its 2024 Commencement ceremony. The mayor will serve as the principal speaker.

Graduation will take place in Allen Arena at Lipscomb University on May 7 at 6 p.m. The event will also be livestreamed.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell to be Guest Commencement Speaker at Nashville State’s 2024 Graduation “Nashville State is a great asset to our community,” Mayor O’Connell said. “For years, Nashville State has enlivened passions in its students and laid the foundation for their success in Nashville and elsewhere. I’m proud to join these students and their families in celebrating their accomplishment.”

Sworn in as Nashville’s tenth mayor on September 30, 2023, O’Connell previously served on the Metro Council. During his time on the Council, he worked to empower the community through stronger neighborhoods, a commitment to education, and shrinking poverty. All goals he continues to advance as Nashville’s mayor.

“We are thrilled to have Mayor O’Connell join us in celebrating this happy day and recognizing the hard work of our graduates and all of those who have supported them along the way,” said Dr. Shanna L. Jackson, president of Nashville State.

Tickets are required for the event and will be available at cap and gown pick-up. Each graduate will receive six tickets for guests.
